On August 27th the Old Timers Picnic will be held in Argo Park. During this event there will be no parking on 75th Avenue, between 64th St. and 64th Place. The Summit Police Department will be directing traffic ONE WAY eastbound from 75th Avenue in the alley through to 74th Avenue for residents leaving the area. We would ask that no vehicles be parked on 75th Avenue or in the alley during this event.

The checkpoints will be set up on Harlem Ave in the 5700 block and will operate from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. The police detail is being paid for by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation Division of Traffic Safety. Halloween Announcements and Information!

The hours for trick-or-treating are 1pm to 6pm on Saturday, October 31st. As always, the Summit Police Department promotes safety and awareness on nights like Halloween when pedestrian traffic will be high. We encourage you read the followng health and safety tips, as provided by the cdc website.

  • Avoid trick or treating by yourself. Walk in groups or with a trusted adult.
  • Attach reflective materials to costumes and bags to make it easier for drivers to see you.
  • Examine all your goodies for chocking hazards and tampering before consuming.
  • Carry a flashlight with you or glow stick are fun too.
  • Look both ways before crossing the street.
  • Stick to the sidewalks when traveling the streets.
  • Do not enter any homes, even when invited, unless you are accompanied by a trusted adult.

The Summit Police Department is announcing the last date in its series of roadside safety checkpoints for 2015, Friday September 18th. The checkpoint will be set up on Harlem Ave in the 5700 block and will operate from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. The police detail is being paid for by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation Division of Traffic Safety. As partners with I. D. O. T. the Summit Police are focused on improving the safety of our roadways through education and enforcement. The 2015 program has been a great success resulting in more than 20 DUI arrests in its prior operations.

The Summit Police Department is announcing the next two dates in its series of roadside safety checkpoints for 2015. The program has resulted in more than 15 DUI arrests in its prior operations. The next dates will be July 24th and August 15th. The checkpoints will be set up on Archer Rd in 5700 block and will operate from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. The police detail is being paid for by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation Division of Traffic Safety. The checkpoint will be set up on Archer Rd in 5700 block and will operate from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. starting on 6/13/2015.
